RazorBladeKisses have released their much anticipated album 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Scar', packed with their unique and intoxicating sound. RazorBladeKisses are some lolita girls who have gone very, very bad.
From beginning to end, the album takes you to that place between lullabies and dreaming - that half-awake state where it's almost impossible to work out what's real and what's not. These songs are the reason your parents wouldn't let you eat sweets before bedtime; 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Scar' is a heady mix of sweet candy sugar and scary, haunting nightmares.
The joint lolita vocalists, Layla and Azadeh have Persian/Iranian roots from which they draw inspiration for their profound lyrics; pulling references out of the Persian fairytales and mythology they read as children.
And that child-like quality is evident in the music, with track names like 'Pretty Dead Doll', 'Teddy' and 'Toy Soldier'. But don't let that innocent, naive facade fool you. Once your back is turned, RazorBladeKisses will push you straight down that rabbit hole and you'll never escape. With their mix of haunting, intoxicating and hypnotic tunes, you will find yourself coming back to this CD time and time again.
RazorBladeKisses are really pushing the boundaries with their music; and with so many carbon-copy bands on the music scene, doing something unique is essential if you want to stand out. Besides the vocals that sing like whispers in the darkness, the music is layered with melodies that wouldn't sound out of place in a child's musical box, like 'No Strings Attached' with its xylophone intro.
If the doll from your childhood came alive and began to sing to you, this is exactly what it would sound like.
'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Scar is so seductive, so inticing that when you've listened to it once, you're addicted, and there's no get out clause. Get this album: you've never heard anything like this before and you'll never get it out of your mind.
'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Scar' is a nightmare so good, you'll never want to wake up.
