I honestly don't have a favourite shoot, I've loved every shoot I've done so far. Any shoot with Miss Plastik and Miss Cobweb are always pure amazing and so much fun!
What's the best piece of photograhy advice you have been given?
It's all about the lighting! Lighting can make or break a photo. You don't need fancy studio lights. Natural lighting is the best.
What is the most challenging thing about being a professional photographer?
I'd say coming up with an original idea for a shoot is the hardest thing. Almost everything has been done before.
Where does your inspiration come from?
Mainly Japanese street fashion, Asian films and a little imagination.
What does the future hold for Panda Face Photography?
My ultimate goal is to start a business to help people with low self esteem and confidence, using my photography to help build them up.
You can check out the Panda Face Photography portfolio on the ModelMayhem site (link above) and contact Rachel if you're interested in working with her.
Rachel is a young photographer from Sheffield. She started doing photography seriously just over a year ago and has also worked in front of the camera as an alternative fashion model. Rachel is currently spending time expanding her portfolio of alternative shoots; she is keen not to be "just another girl with a camera that likes to play photographer."
We caught up with her to find out a little bit more about her passion for photography.
What prompted your decision to pursue photography as a profession rather than just a hobby?
I'd never say I'm a professional as I still have alot to learn. Photography is something I've always had a love for, it sort of runs in the family.
You have also worked as an alternative model. How does your experience in front of the camera help you as a photographer?
It helps me direct my models. I know sometimes when you're posing you feel a little stupid in case it looks totally wrong, so I reassure them that in most cases the more awkward you feel the better it looks - as long as you dont show it in your face!
What is it that draws you to alternative styles in particular?
Since I'm classed as "alternative" it's my natural choice, there are so many subcultures in fashion and I love them all - to me alternative is a very lose term that covers everything that's not in the mainstream.
