Hooked Up Trailer

1/4/2015

Brace yourselves for the first ever feature-length horror film to be shot entirely on an iPhone when Hooked Up arrives on DVD from April 27th, 2015, courtesy of Signature Entertainment.

Following in the dark and twisted footsteps of found-footage classics like The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity, the horrors of Hooked Up are delivered through the iPhones of Tonio (Jonah Ehrenreich) and Peter (Stephen Ohl), two young Americans who travel to Barcelona to party and meet women. When Tonio and Peter befriend the flirtatious Noemi and Katia on their first night out partying, they escort them back to the house where things take an unexpected turn. The boys become trapped in the house and soon realise that the girls have a very different kind of party in mind - one the guests don't get to leave...

Director Pablo Larcuen (Orphan, Non-Stop) turns the found footage genre on its head in much the same way as distant cousin VHS did. Destined to become a cult favourite and arriving on a huge wave of anticipation amongst genre and tech fans, Hooked Up brings an age-old tale of terror firmly and horrifyingly into the present.

New Hard Rock TV Channel Launches

2/3/2015

TMR TV is a brand new web-based hard rock TV channel created by the founder of TheMidlandsRocks.com, Peter Keevil.

Recapturing the heyday of MTV-style shows, TMR TV is all about the music, with a presenter introducing the latest video releases as well as news and views from the rock and metal scene.

Following its recent launch with Betsson casino flagship show 'Keevil's Killer Cuts' (a weekly 20-minute vodcast bringing you the hottest classic, hard, stoner, and blues-based rock music) there are additional programmes planned. All shows are filmed at Billibee Creative Studios in Birmingham and produced by David Billingham for TMR TV.

Peter said, “It’s something I’ve always wanted to explore whilst running TheMidlandsRocks.com as it’s a natural extension of the written word. I’ve now hooked up with an awesome videographer in David Billingham and we have great fun throwing together a weekly vodcast. We hope people enjoy it and also discover some excellent music.”

New Dethany Dendrobia Book Released

10/12/2014

Cryptwarming by Bill Holbrook
Creator of the comic strip 'On the Fastrack', artist Bill Holbrook, has released a new book featuring the strip's corporate goth character, Dethany Dendrobia.

The book, titled 'Cryptwarming', includes Dethany's 2011 interview with EGL Magazine, which you can read here.

Here's the book blurb:

Dethany buys a house in this, the complete collection of 2011 strips from “On the Fastrack.” As a bonus you’ll also see the pencil sketches drawn live at her housewarming, when she invites both her co-workers and her friends from the non-corporate sphere.

Not invited is Dethany’s ex-boyfriend Syd, who resurfaces during a business trip with Wendy. The past also intrudes upon the present when Ms. Trellis researches Dethany’s childhood. Growing up is seen to be a challenge, under the strict military guidance of Lt. Colonel Anne Dendrobia.

Ms. Trellis and Dethany’s mother come to be at odds during a contentious business negotiation. Other events include Dethany becoming the victim of identity theft, tutoring high school student Patina Welding, planning the Fastrack holiday party and, finally, spending New Year’s Eve as a winsome gargoyle.

Welcome to Dethany’s house, where every day is Halloween!

You can pick up a copy of 'Cryptwarming' from Lulu.com, or find out more about Dethany and her co-workers at

Alt-Fest is Officially Cancelled

1/8/2014

Alt-Fest
As has been expected for some time, the official news has come that Alt-Fest is cancelled.

In a lengthy and detailed statement on the Alt-Fest Facebook page, organisers Dominic and Missy Void have explained all of the elements that have led to this decision.

They state that despite their best efforts, "
this week [they] ran out of time to raise all the required funds that were needed upfront of the festival." They go on to explain that they have "been contending with a costing error made and ultimately poor advice in the early stages by a company who were supposed to help [them] work out what the festival would cost to put on." It always was a hugely ambitious project, with the kind of line-up you would expect to see at a well established event, not a fledgling one.

What it comes down to, is that they simply sold less tickets than they expected to, and just 3,000 more would have tipped them over the break-even line. They say "
We had exhausted all options but please know that we did everything within our power to make this happen", and "We feel we have let the alternative community down, this saddens us immensely".

While they are receiving a lot of support and good wishes, there is also an inevitable backlash which will likely prove very difficult for them to recover from, both personally and professionally. You can read the statement in its entirety here: facebook.com/AlternativeFest/posts/419443814860053

Alt-Fest Cancellation Rumours Continue to Grow

31/7/2014

Alt-Fest
The five-day alternative music festival, Alt-Fest, appears that it may have been cancelled with just a couple of weeks to go. The crowd funded project, boasting headliners VNV Nation, The Cult and Marilyn Manson, along with a host of other huge names, is a hugely exciting and ambitious project.

Rumours began yesterday when a small number of the booked acts posted on social media that they had received emails stating that the event had been cancelled. Rumours have been spreading and gaining momentum since.

The Facebook event page for Marilyn Manson's appearance at the festival was changed to read as Cancelled, although his website left the event open on the tour page for some time longer. Combichrist have also stated that they have been told the event is off. Although the majority of the acts are still in the dark.

There has been no official response from the organisers, and they have closed down threads about the rumours from the forums on the Alt-Fest website. Regardless of the truth of the rumours, the damage to the festival's reputation may well be irreversible already.

We're keeping an eye out for official news...
