Mongrel are an aggressive rock band from Danvers, Massachusetts, formed in 2003 by Adam Savage - song writer and guitars. Although the band has been through a number of line-up changes over the years, they are currently looking forward to an album release later this year following the Halloween 2009 release of their EP 'Revenge'.
'Revenge' was released as 'something special to the fans', packed with exclusive tracks which will not be duplicated on the upcoming album. 'Revenge' follows Mongrel's debut album 'Fear, Lies, Propaganda'. Mongrel are also a band that love to gig, and are well known on the American live music scene.
EGL Magazine checked out their EP album 'Revenge' which is packed full of heavy guitar licks and a back beat that you can swing your head and arms about to in an intoxicating moshpit frenzy. Stand out tracks include commanding tunes 'Scum' and 'Beyond Repair.'
The heavy-handed, confident violation of sound is so good that it'll leave a stomp in your step and a tune in your head for days. With strong-spoken lyrics and a deep sense of a raw, dirty, heavy tone;
Mongrel makes the kind of music that has you expecting to see the whole gig end in a heavy metal rage, leaving the stage and instruments in a pile of rubble as a true form of expressionism art. And art it is.
Aspiring guitarists and bassists definitely need to listen closely to the riffs of Adam Savage and Rev, this is music that, if you can play like this, you can truly rock. It takes a heck of a lot of work to get to this stage, and these guys have absolutely nailed it. The EP is confident and assured; this is a band that knows exactly what it's doing and where it wants to go.
This album is definitely recommended for any metal/rock party: put it on and make everyone go crazy. And make sure it's at someone else's house because it's gonna get messy.
We also checked out the first single, 'Bored to Death' from the upcoming album 'This Means War', and, if the album sounds as good as this single, it will be a stand-out album with more heavy metal than you can shake your head at. Quite frankly, we're excited. 'Bored to Death' can be heard on their MySpace page or downloaded from iTunes now.
