These sections show real-life goths out on the street, and offers viewers a whole wealth of inspiration with images of imaginative and unique style, customised clothes, hair, piercings and tattoos.
There are sections of this video that move from the street into the bedroom; with staged sections of women dancing or writhing around on the bed semi-naked. This is what gives the DVD it's German age rating of 16. While fetish is a well-established sub-genre of the gothic culture, and sex is an entangled part of being goth for many people, I, personally, was far less interested in these sections of film, far happier soaking up the wealth of variety shown by the goths on the street. But, I'm sure there will be many happy to disagree with me.
The Last Day of Innocence certainly works as a way to introduce people to every gothic style they've heard of, and a few more besides. It's fast, upbeat, fun and shows just how imaginative and creative goths can be. Anyone who thought dressing goth was a pair of Criminal Damage jeans and a Marilyn Manson hoodie will have their minds blown apart with a quick-fire array of images featuring all the different styles of goth in a whole spectrum of different colours. And if you're looking for some inspiration, this DVD will certainly offer you that.
This would make the perfect stocking filler gift for that difficult-to-buy-for goth in your life, or pop it in the DVD player at a party. It's up to you whether you turn it up and rock out to its soundtrack, or if you whack on your own CDs and just let the images speak for themselves.

The Last Day of Innocence is an exploration of every single variety of gothic fashion and style condensed onto one DVD from an independent German video label. Backdropped by a kick-ass soundtrack, the DVD shows clips of goths of every genre in a fast-paced onslaught on the fashion senses!
This DVD has not been seduced by stereotypes, and fully explores gothic fashion from fetish, through classic gothic styles, to grunge, emo and lolita. Much of the filming was done at the Wave Gotik Treffen festival, a yearly gothic festival held in Leipzig, Germany, boasting attendance of approximately 20,000 people each year.
