Glasgow based band Kick to Kill are set to release their brand new single 'Cut Me' on November 2nd 2009.
Two years ago, Kick to Kill signed with Glaswegian indie label Flowers in the Dustbin and released their debut single 'Quit Tomorrow'. While Kick to Kill had already attracted a loyal following of fans on the gigging circuit, this release caught the attention of the music industry and received great acclaim.
But things weren't all rosy, and within days of the release, the band's original line-up fell apart, leaving core members Harris Hill, Lewis Macaulay and frontman Dave Cook, who created the band, to pick up the pieces.
In 2007, Kick to Kill, along with Flowers in the Dustbin, created the seminal Glasgow live event; The Darkwave Opera which has played to packed audiences in venues such as Barfly, The 13th Note, The Captain's Rest and The Beat Club.
Since then, Kick to Kill have performed some legendary support slots with The Fall, John Cooper Clarke and A Place to Bury Strangers. The band were also selected by The Damned to play on their Twisted Cabaret tour. And now Kick to Kill are back with a brand new fourth member - Ewan Shearer - and are looking forward towards the release of their EP, scheduled to be let loose early in 2010.
While the band worked on the final mixes of the tracks, frontman Dave Cook was attacked in Glasgow city centre. He was stabbed twice in the head, and twice in the chest, literally escaping death by millimetres. After being revived and stitched up in hospital, Dave Cook discharged himself the following morning with the immortal words "It doesn't hurt." This band are truly indestructable.
'Cut Me' is the brand new single from their forthcoming EP, and Kick to Kill really are proving themselves to be one to watch.
One thing which is very apparent in Kick to Kill's music is just how much they love what they do; they have notated their passion and enthusiasm straight into the track, and you can't help but get excited about these guys.
There's something very unusual about their sound, something nostalgically retro with David Cook's voice which wouldn't sound out of place in an 80s synth band - but this doesn't leave them sounding old-fashioned or like anything you've heard before, Kick to Kill are bringing something new to the rock world. You are going to like this band, but you probably won't be able to put your finger on why.
Their heady rock has subtle undertones of both gothic and emo inspirations and they are a band that will appeal to a wide variety of people. Download the single from www.myspace.com/FlowersInTheDustbin from Monday and you'll be eagerly awaiting the release of their EP next year.
