Established Dallas band Ghoultown have just released their sixth album 'Life After Sundown' and invited EGL Magazine to have a listen.
If you imagine a country & western band being invited to play a live set in Hell for the Devil and his friends, you're somewhere close to the unique and addictive sound of Ghoultown. You'll feel like square-dancing with death as you work your way through the varied track list, with melodic, heart-breaking tunes slipped inbetween dirty, thrashing punk riffs. 'Life After Sundown' is like an entire lifetime's soundtrack summed up on one disc.
Starting out with an intro which makes you feel like your walking into some cowboy saloon at high noon, they pull you back to reality with the thumping punk riffs of 'Dead Outlaw', but with their signature country feel weaved throughout the track, you'll still think you can smell the leather and the horse sweat.

It's very clear that this is an established band, their sound is so far away from what we usually hear in the alternative music sphere, but they make no apologies for it: with their lyrics picking up typical cowboy themes of riding, fighting, drinking and generally doing what cowboys do.
IN THE GHOULTOWN HISTORY BOOKS
Ghoultown were formed in 1999 by vocalist Count Lyle, and list their musical influences as being an eclectic mix of rockabilly, western ballads, goth, punk and metal.
The band have also drawn influences from the movie world, namely spaghetti westerns and horror.

And Ghoultown, in turn, have had an influence on the movie world, with one of their tracks being chosen for the soundtrack of the horror-slasher, American Nightmare. And this appearance on the soundtrack turned into an appearance in the movie itself after the director saw the band playing live. Ghoultown also appear on the soundtracks to short and independent films Headcheese (filmed in the same location as Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Suburban Nightmare, Hallow's End, and most recently Cannibal Flesh Riot.
Ghoultown are currently moving forward with a number of new projects, and the band has just completed shooting a music video with legendary horror hostess, Elvira (see picture right). Having been asked by Elvira herself to create a new theme song, Lyle and the boys were glad to indulge with a brand new tribute/theme song which will be packaged along with a DVD for release in early 2009.
