North East rockers Cult Of Whores And Dogs formed in July 2009 when guitarist and songwriter Keith Baird got together with guitarist Michael Atherton to begin work on the band's debut release. In January 2010, the guys hooked up in the studio with session drummer Paul Tallent before full-time drummer Chris McLeod joined the band in March, soon followed by Jessica Hardy on bass and main vocals in May.
The band's EP; 'Brass Knuckle Bondage and Morgue Rules' was completed in June, and for a band who has only just finished putting itself together, the EP sounds tight and slick. The band gels together well and is definitely one to watch: they will carve the sleazecore genre deep into the consciousness of metal fans everywhere and into the music industry as a whole.
You know it's going to be something different when a band offers up lyrics like 'Writhe in the sheets my moaner Lisa/I'm just another creep that gets between her' and 'We'll tear his temple down - rape his holy ground/And we'll masturbate on what they consecrate as we fuck in the church of wolves', and especially when they put them on the lips of a female singer.
This is not a band willing to pull any punches.
This debut EP gives you tracks with a bass line that will make you want to crank up the volume until you're blowing your speakers and the sound hits you like a sledgehammer to the side of your face. It's addictive, because it's dirty. It's sleazy and filthy and makes you feel bad. This is teenage rebellion for grownups; a collection of hardcore tracks that would easily slot into the soundtrack of a snuff movie.
The whole sound together of the instruments and vocals is enough to make the blood rush to the head and curdle with such a compliment of one another. This is not a band for skin-tight trousers and fancy hair-dos, this band is all about huge biker boots and long, straggly beards. These sinners are going straight to hell and they will be condemmed to play for Satan's blood orgies for the rest of time. And they're going to rock the place.
The EP 'Brass Knuckle Bondage And Morgue Rules' is set to be released on July 31st 2010 and is well worth a listen. In the meantime, Cult of Whores and Dogs are back in the studio recording tracks for their next EP set for release in October, which will be followed by a UK tour.
