Alt Model Interview: Caitlyn Andromeda
Caitlyn Andromeda is an alternative model who is just starting out on her modelling career. Describing herself as "pastel gothic", her portfolio includes clothing brands Appleye Creations, Offbeat, Silver Geode Jeans and Peaked Apparel.
She approached EGL Magazine, not only to gain some coverage, but also with a hope to "inspire other aspiring models." So let's find out a little more about her...
How did you first become interested in modeling?
I found out how easy it was to get into modeling when I was 14 or 15 and started off working as a full time model for a small clothing company run by a friend. Once I had my "self realization" epiphany, I moved into alternative modeling. Also, I LOVE playing dress-up. So why not have fun and make money at the same time? They say if you make a career of something you love, you'll never work a day in your life.
What is it that you like about alternative fashion in particular?
It gives me the feeling of being myself. For years I dressed up to please others and now I just dress to please me. The alternative style just fits me best and makes me happy.
What are the best and worst pieces of advice you've been given?
I got a lot of advice about starting my modeling career. The worst advice I was given was to apply to site modeling agencies on Facebook and Myspace. Trust me, that gets you NOWHERE. Someone else told me to just get out there and come to small businesses asking about modeling with them - it definitely worked because now, they come to me!
What has been your biggest fashion mistake?
Forgetting to repaint my nails for a BIG photoshoot. I'm sure lots of people noticed when they saw the pictures and it was really embarrassing.
Style or comfort?
I tend to find a happy medium because you should care about how you look, but not so much that you forget how you feel.
What is your No 1 beauty or fashion tip?
Do not EVER starve yourself because you want to be thinner. I look the way I do because I eat 3 healthy meals a day and do lots of physical activities. If I didn't do all that, I'd just say screw being skinny because being healthy is more important than meeting the standards set by others.
Who is your style icon and why?
I really don't have anyone that I base my style on; I mean, my style is 100% ME. But if there was anyone in the fashion world that I look up to, it's Jeffree Star. He is a great inspiration fashion-wise and I love his makeup tips. He has a nice vibe and lots of self confidence, which is setting a great example for people everywhere.
What are your hopes for your future modelling career?
I hope to get out there more and one day, model for big name brands. Being a famous model would be great because I could bring attention to things like scoliosis awareness and reptile rescue shelters, two things I am very enthusiastic about. Until then, I'm just gonna have fun and play dress-up.
